We fit literally hundreds of different 'off the peg' lens designs but, for the more complicated, we specialise in making bespoke custom designed lenses so that we really can fit virtually anyone! Because of our expertise many colleagues refer their most complex patients to us!
And if you're SHORT SIGHTED we strongly urge you to look at ORTHO-K- lenses worn overnight which give normal vision for a day or more. All the advantages of Eye Surgery without any of the risks!
Our new wonder lens is DUETTE - all the advantages of the comfort of soft lenses with the superb vision of rigid lenses. DUETTE has a soft skirt and rigid centre - it's now usually our first choice for all new patients, especially if special soft lenses to correct astigmatism would otherwise be required.

We have gained such a reputation for being able to fit "problem" eyes that many patients are referred to us by other Opticians and Hospital Eye departments. At The Contact Lens Practice we fit lenses for a whole range of problems including TORICS for astigmatism, red - green colour blindness, irregular corneas and eyes damaged by trauma and laser surgery. We also fit lenses to hide or disguise disfigured eyes. So no matter what you're concerned about - if it's to do with your eyes we can help!
We also fit Ortho-K lenses for short sight. These flatten the cornea whilst being slept in and, when removed in the morning, give normal vision for a day or more. Exactly the same principle as LASER but without all the risks of surgery and it's completely reversible! It has now been proven to stop, or even reverse the increase in short sight in young children!
Age is No Barrier
 Oh - and as to being too young - or too old for contacts, our youngest patient was
2 ½ when we fitted him and our oldest is over 90. And fitted with Ortho-k lenses we can stop childrens short sight getting worse!

Geoff Wilson, the founder - and a leading Contact Lens expert - was the first Optometrist in the UK to set up a practice devoted to fitting contact lenses. He did this in 1973 and has been working closely with lens manufacturers ever since. In 1974 he was one of only 10 Contact Lens Practitioners in the World to clinically trial the very first soft sleep in lens - PERMALENS for the US Food & Drug Administration. As well as continually evaluating new lenses Geoff also designs them; a lens designed by him in 1994 to correct astigmatism is still being fitted by Contact Lens Fitters all over the World. So when you come into the practice you KNOW you're entrusting your sight to the very best.

Every eye is different and today there are thousands of different types of contact lenses available from dozens of different manufacturers. Because we're specialists we fit them all (most opticians fit only a handful of different lenses). That's one of the reasons why we can help you when others have given up.If it should turn out that none of the branded lens designs are ideally suitable for you, this is when Geoff and his colleagues have the unique, and now rare expertise to design bespoke lenses especially to suit you.

 We're a small family business; we only have one location, so the person you talk to today will be here next month. We promise that we'll look after you and fit you with lenses that you're happy with. Over 85% of our patients come to us because friends or relatives recommended us. We now regularly fit the grandchildren of patients who have been with The Contact Lens Practice since we first opened in 1973 so you know you'll be in good hands.
