Geoff Wilson B.Sc (Hons) FCOptom - Founder
Geoff is the founder and driving force behind The Contact Lens Practice. Forced to wear glasses at the age of 14, Geoff was an early convert to Contact Lenses. His first pair was the hard micro-corneal lenses - the forerunners to today's rigid gas permeable lenses. Like anyone who wore those lenses he still vividly remembers his first painful session wearing them and the gallons of tears that he shed during those 30 minutes. Nowadays thanks to all the new designs and materials available he frequently sends patients home in lenses so comfortable they can sleep in them from the very first day.
Graduating from the University of Aston in 1965 with an Honours Degree in Optometry, he focused on fitting Contact Lenses from the very beginning and was immediately supplementing his education with on-the-job training in the most complex cases; fitting Scleral Lenses, Bifocals, and Lenses for Astigmatism. It was this experience that made him decide to take the daring step of opening The Contact Lens Practice in 1973.
If anything he is even more passionate about Contact Lenses now than he was then. Because of his unique specialisation he has spent the last 37 years working with lens manufacturers from all around the world, trialling and designing new lenses for them.
In 1974 Geoff was one of 10 Contact Lens Specialists invited by Global Vision to carry out the clinical trials for the US Food & Drugs Administration on Permalens, the World's very first sleep in soft lens. Subsequently he has designed various new lenses most notably being the PROCLEAR TORIC soft lens which is sold by COOPERVISION to opticians Worldwide!
So when he says "We CAN fit you with lenses that are comfortable and give you good vision" he really means it!!
